Strategic Women’s Advancement

Women and men are currently graduating from law school at approximately the same numbers. Yet, women still occupy fewer positions in law firm leadership and are not achieving rainmaker ranks as often as their male counterparts. These numbers significantly handicap a law firm’s ability to compete for clients and the best talent. A growing body of research indicates that organizations possessing gender balanced leadership teams outperform organizations with male dominated leadership teams.  Client relationships thrive, work environments are more satisfying, and the ability to develop creative solutions is enhanced when men and women collaborate. Learning how to leverage the different capabilities, values, and styles that men and women often possess is imperative for the long-term survival and success of law firms.  Awareness of gender differences, strengthening women’s initiatives, and creating highly productive gender balanced work teams is the current frontier for the forward looking law firm.
